Not all poems are about the most epic of fights or the great journey to the end of the world. Some are about mundane things–things that, without them, great things would never happen.
Desert Man.
Steps taken according to plan.
Careful footprints traced through shifting sands.
Writhing snakes that move all wrong.
They blot out the path as the man walks along.
Careful breathes to keep the body rested.
A full meal, in the process of digestion.
The head is wrapped to keep the sun out.
The cool, careful plan frees the mind of doubt.
Steps carry the man across miles of terrain.
He navigates the day and night with his brain.
At length he reaches the end of the dust.
The bustle of a market just rises up.
He purchases and buys what he’s come to retrieve.
Once the shopping is done, it’s time to leave.
It’s not about saving the world. Sometimes, you just need to go buy groceries. Have a great day.
