There are many childhood memories to hold onto. One of mine is of sitting around a campfire enjoying the splendor of its blaze. Written in the glow are words of things not thought of. Amazing–and yet unsettling.
Campfire Dream.
Sparks dancing in a breeze that flutters all about
little leaves on smaller trees shadowed in the dark’s mouth.
Sparks trace letters in the air as fire speaks to me.
It tells me secrets–
explaining things without a shadow of a doubt.
Fire is a portal.
It points to other worlds.
If you could step through
You could meet other boys and girls.
Fire is so playful.
It snaps its fingers loud.
When you let your food fall in
and laughs and burns it down.
So, heed the words of fire.
Heed what it is they say.
You listen closely when you’re near.
And never forget what it says.
Have a great day.
